Re-pinning, in plain terms

Settlement day on a house you just bought is the clearest one. You have no idea how many keys exist or who holds them, and the agent cannot tell you either. The same applies when a tenant leaves, when a relationship ends, or after any break-in.
Asking for keys back is not a solution. Copies cost a few dollars and leave no trace, so the returned bunch proves nothing. Re-pinning the cylinders is the only step that makes every unknown key useless.
